The main differences between plasma and LCD TV’s

Quite often people assume a plasma screen TV is the better option when purchasing a new TV. Below are some points to consider if you are torn between Plasma and LCD.

Screen Size- most Plasma TV’s go up to a bigger size than LCD TV’s, however more and more LCD TV’s are being made in bigger sizes.

Thickness- A plasma screen can be as thin as 3cm whereas LCD can be as thin as 3cm thick.

Viewing Angle- The average Plasma will be around 160° whereas an LCD can be around 165°,  some LCD’s have caught up with Plasma in this element.

Risk of burn in- Plasma screens can get this if they are left with the same image on the screen for a long time. This can create a permanent ghost on the screen. LCD TV’s do not do this.

Colours- Plasma screens are capable of producing 16.77 million colours whereas LCD’s recreate colours by manipulating light waves and subtracting from white light.

Life span- Plasma screens typically have a 3 year life scan (if on for 24hours 7 days per week) LCD TV’s have a 6 year life span if measured in the same way. LCD’s can also be fixed and bulbs replaced meaning essentially that they do not have to be discarded ever.

Power hungry? Plasma screen TV’s use lots more energy that LCD TV’s as they light each and every pixel on the screen.
