The VW Jetta is the firm's small family car which fits between the Golf and the Passat, historically the Jetta has been known as the Bora and Vento. The Jetta is a Golf with a saloon style boot added to the rear. The 2011 Jetta however will be independent of the Golf with new body panels and a longer wheel base.

The Volkswagen Jetta in Taunton comes with a few engine choices, 3 petrols and 3 diesels. In the petrol range there is a 1.4TSI available with either 121bhp or 158bhp and a 2.0 litre with 197bhp. In the diesel line up you have a 2.0 litre engine available with 138bhp or 168bhp and a 1.6 litre TDI.

Due to additional strengthening the Jetta's body is stiffer than the Golf's making it even better to drive. It is sharp and stable at motorway speeds and firm but controlled around town. The electric power steering feels great as it gets heavier with speed.

Due to its increased size compared to the Golf it inevitably offers greater cabin and luggage space. Creature comforts such as automatic lights and wipers are also available. The extra space in the cabin is best demonstrated in the rear, passengers in the back seats get decent amount of leg and head room.

The standard equipment on the Jetta is quite impressive, all models come with electric windows and mirrors, a CD player, alloy wheels, remote central locking, automatic lights and wipers, and air-conditioning.

The Jetta is priced to compete with the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, the 1.4 TSI costs £17,090 while the top of the range 2.0 TDI CR Sport costs £21,780.
