Trailer Restraint $279.95 Pit Bull Trailer Restraint The Pit Bull Trailer Restraint System is a revolutionary way to transport your motorcycle using a combination of features never seen before. It holds the bike from its rear axle and allows both tires to rest on the floor of the trailer or transport vehicle. There are no straps holding the bike down. This minimizes the space used in the trailer and eliminates the chance of damage caused by straps The motorcycle rests on the trailer floor with no added force on the suspension. This means no more blown fork seals caused by heavy strap tension, and a flat tire on the bike will not change how securely the bike is held This is the quickest, easiest system available for loading/unloading your bike for transport One person can easily roll the bike into place until it is captured by the restraint Kit Includes: Trailer mount with 2" mounting bolts Bike restraint Model specific axle pins Bungee to keep restraint up while moving bike |

Rules and Restraint $22.5 Government spending has increased dramatically in the United States since World War II despite the many rules intended to rein in the insatiable appetite for tax revenue most politicians seem to share. Drawing on examples from the federal and state governments, Rules and Restraint explains in lucid, nontechnical prose why these budget rules tend to fail, and proposes original alternatives for imposing much-needed fiscal discipline on our legislators. One reason budget rules are ineffective, David Primo shows, is that politicians often create and preserve loopholes to protect programs that benefit their constituents. Another reason is that legislators must enforce their own provisions, an arrangement that is seriously compromised by their unwillingness to abide by rules that demand short-term sacrifices for the sake of long-term gain. Convinced that budget rules enacted through such a flawed legislative process are unlikely to work, Primo ultimately calls for a careful debate over the advantages and drawbacks of a constitutional convention initiated by the states—a radical step that would bypass Congress to create a path toward change. Rules and Restraint will be required reading for anyone interested in institutional design, legislatures, and policymaking. |

Leading with Restraint $1.99 This is the eBook version of the printed book. This Element is an excerpt from Why Great Leaders Don't Take Yes for an Answer: Managing for Conflict and Consensus (9780131454392) by Michael A. Roberto. Available in print and digital formats. Why “take-charge” leadership requires surprising restraint: how to lead when you don’t, won’t, and can’t know everything. Everywhere we turn, we hear people talking about the need for more leaders and more effective leadership. Our institutions need leaders who can motivate people, manage change, and align disparate groups behind a common goal. Now more than ever, leaders must gather and assimilate divergent perspectives, choose based on incomplete information, test assumptions carefully, reach closure quickly, and build strong buy-in…. |

Power and Restraint $27.95 In accepting the authority to govern, what responsibilities do the police incur? Power and Restraint answers this question by using a moral perspective grounded in the social contract, and by defining an ethical basis for police work. Howard S. Cohen and Michael Feldberg posit five standards by which to measure responsible police behavior: fair access, public trust, safety and security, teamwork, and objectivity. To test their proposals, Cohen and Feldberg apply these standards to several familiar yet challenging cases that are encountered in municipal patrol work in the United States, illustrating how police officers can develop appropriate moral responses to complex and difficult circumstances. These developed standards of ethical behavior can be used as a basis for the rehearsal of decision-making and action in police training as well as for the judicious evaluation of police behavior after the fact. The authors developed their theories over a 10 year period by spending hundreds of hours in seminars on police ethics with officers and trainers from across the country, carefully discussing specific cases and examples of moral issues that were most troubling to the officers themselves. With its systematic and integrated approach to the analysis and evaluation of cases, this timely work extends the field of police ethics. The two-section volume begins with an introduction that describes how the authors arrived at the system of ethical standards that is developed in detail in the three chapters of Part I. In Part II, four chapters present challenging scenarios that test the developed standards in the context of real policing situations, addressing such issues as excessive force, gratuities and corruption, balancing individual rights with keeping the peace, and sorting through the conflict between loyalty to colleagues and telling the truth under oath about possible wrongdoing. This book will be invaluable to instructors in university-level criminal justice courses that deal with ethics or the police. It could also be used in courses in applied ethics in philosophy and will be an important resource for police academy trainers for both in-service and recruit training. |
