What If You Had a Universal Remote That Control Your Life?

As an architect, Michael Newman (By Adam Sandler) is considered as a middle-aged man who has successful career and happy family. His beautiful and virtuous wife (By Kate Beckinsale) and two lovely children make him a leader among peers. But, like many other men in middle class families, busy work is the biggest problem of Mike. Busy work makes him rarely enjoy family happy hours with his wife and children.

One day, Mike is taking a rare break at home, but he can not find the TV remote. So he goes to a nearby electronics store to buy a multi-function remote that can remote both television and audio disc player. The store owner, Moti (By Christopher Walken) recommends him a full-function remote control which can control "lots of things". After Mike backs home, he finds out that this remote has numerous magical functions. Not only control some household appliances, and even time and space are controlled by this little thing.

Using this remote, Mike can control his time optionally and lives a life as he wants. He won't be bothered by lots of living trivia. He can make the sound loud dog drops to zero. He can skip the trouble of family gatherings, the fight with his wife, traffic congestion, illness, etc. With this universal remote control, Michael's life seems to be very comfortable and ease. In his work, the remote does a huge favor for him. He can skip the hard working time, and jump to the day of his promotion.

But, good times disappear fast. Gradually, the smart chip, inside this fate changing remote, starts to be effective. In turn, it controls the owner's life. Since then, Michael's life is full of mess and confusion. Because of the automatic memorize function Michael can hardly have a real work time. It will be fast forwarded to another day automatically every time he starts to work. Michael skips lots of time so that he misses many important moments, such as his father's death, his devoice, and even the work's failure.

Finally, this remote sends Michael directly to the end of his life. When he notices his son tries to abandon his family because of work, Michael eventually awakened. At that moment, he uses the last strength tells his son, "Remember family first!" And successfully stops his son making the same mistake.

In our real life, many people may dream to have a same universal remote as Michael has. But, though this movie, we can learn that no matter how busy we are at work, we should always put families at the first important place. Since we can choose work, but can not choose families.

Although there is no universal remote control in our life, Chris Lavoie finds a way to take advantage of advances in smart phones. Lavoie uses an app on his iPhone to control his Apple TV set-top box to search for things to watch. This innovative idea gives us another reason to use an app. And it also encourage electronic manufacturers develop the new function of Smartphone. We may be unable to buy a universal remote control, but we can at least buy a Smartphone which can help us contact with our families except other use.
