Is it really possible that the Nissan Pathfinder is 25 years old? (Is it possible I've been married 20 years? It seems like only yesterday. That should get me some extra points!) When the Pathfinder came out in 1986 the acronym SUV could have made people think "Sun's Ultra Violet" just as frequently as "Sport Utility Vehicle." There just weren't many and they were only driven by mountain men or hippie moms.

Flash forward to 2010 and Nissan, which was not a huge name in the U.S. in 1986 either, is launching the 2011 Silver Edition trim of the Pathfinder. East Providence Nissan dealers are excited about celebrating 25 years of pathfinding.

Not only has Nissan made a huge name for itself and firmly established its reputation for quality in the United States over the past quarter century, the Japanese auto maker also has helped add SUV to the dictionary. The Pathfinder has been made over and freshened several times, but has remained a fun, family-friendly vehicle.

The newest edition will feature 17-inch wheels, satellite radio and a ten-speaker Bose sound system, Bluetooth connectivity, heated front seats in leather, keyless entry and ignition and many other comforts that Nissan fans have come to love. Warwick used car customers will be thrilled with this model.

With a 4.0-liter V6 engine and five-speed automatic transmission, this Pathfinder won't lack power and the easy handling over any terrain is present as well. A couple of small changes have been made, but only on the surface. The SE trim level will now be called the SV, and you can expand the color choice by one - it's now available in Espresso Black. You can also opt for Red Brick Navy Blue, Super Black (much blacker than Espresso Black), Dark Slate, Silver Lightning and Avalanche.

The Nissan Pathfinder has a base price of $36,290 for the rear-wheel drive model and $38,290 with the four-wheel drive. The three rows of seating for up to seven makes this a true family vehicle - or the perfect adventure machine.

The XM NavTraffic navigation system will keep you away from the traffic snares and safety features abound as well. There are six standard airbags, ABS, Vehicle Dynamic Control, and over 40 other safeguards.  The Silver Edition , as well as other trims, also come with Dual Media Playback, Radio Data system, speed-sensitive volume control, the Nissan Vehicle Immobilizer System and Vehicle Security System.

Fuel economy is not over-the-top with the Pathfinder, but it's acceptable. Models with the V6 range 14-15 mpg city and 18-20 highway. Hey, it's an SUV. Do you want the capability to tow big stuff and take your entire family in one vehicle or do you want to hold everything on your lap, travel two at a time and get 40 mpg? You decide.
