Maserati GranTurismo Convertible: drop the top – top the rest
The GranTurismo Convertible is the latest Maserati model launched in 2010. The new Convertible redefines the market for open-top high end sports cars, offering both superior performance and four full-size seats.
Maserati has become well-known for elegance, outstanding quality and higher performance thanks to a continuous search for perfection in every detail, resulting in a unique Maserati experience for owners. This is the tradition that Maserati celebrates in launching the first four seat open-top car to emerge from the Viale Ciro Menotti complex in Modena, the first car with four comfortable seats and without compromising the unique, exciting handling of all Maserati cars.
The retractable multilayer soft top permits a huge range of color combinations while optimizing functionality, space and weight requirements. The soft top is available in six standard exterior colors (black, blue, burgundy, chocolate, titanium grey and java), complemented headliners available in black, beige and beluga grey. The durability of the soft top system has been demonstrated by several severe tests that exposed the roof to the most challenging weather conditions.
In designing the Maserati GranTurismo Convertible particular attention was paid to the rear passengers, who will enjoy uncompromised comfort not typically found in open-top cars. The rear seats are enhanced by a relaxed, 22 degree seatback angle that gives occupants an outstanding seating position unlike other convertibles. The GranTurismo Convertible's rear passenger seats are designed to ideally transporting two adults in ideal comfort.
Aerodynamic efficiency has been achieved thanks to the underbody components' & body special designs that have been specified to maximize down-force while minimizing drag.
Maserati GranTurismo Convertible is so exhilarating to drive, immediately and predictably responsive to every driver input and eminently enjoyable also thanks to its balanced weight distribution. With the top up, 49% of the car's weight is carried by the front wheels and 51% by the rear wheels (48% / 52% with the top down).
The most powerful of Maserati's V8 engine is the heart of the GranTurismo Convertible. The engine features a 4.7 liters displacement and power delivery of 433 bhp at 7,000 rpm. The torque is reasonably flat and offers a maximum of 361 ft-lb at only 4,750 rpm. The engine cylinder banks are set at a 90° angle with four valves per cylinder.
The Maserati GranTurismo Convertible provides aural thrills thanks to its clever multi-setting exhaust system. The exhaust valve bypass is controlled in order to open only at over 3,000 rpm. This mechanism gives the car two distinct driving personalities: discreet and comfortable at low speeds, responsive and powerful at high revs with a remarkably enjoyable sound.
The performance-enhancing Limited Slip Differential is a standard feature common to all Maserati models. The mechanical system works in harmony with the Maserati Stability Program by providing torque to both rear wheels and, at the same time, allow maximizing the traction during acceleration and cornering. The limited-slip differential is developed and utilized mainly in motorsport, and it is especially effective in transitional handling situations such as powering out of a corner, where having an optimize traction and torque is a clear advantage.

Maserati 8c $68.51 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Maserati 8C was a Grand Prix race car for Maserati between 1932 and 1933. The 8C was being designed by Alfieri Maserati in the early 1930s however he died before its completion. Development of the engine continued and the car was constructed for racing in 1932. The car won the 1933 French Grand Prix and Sir Henry Birkin achieved third place driving it in the Tripoli Grand Prix, however it was not very successful in other races. The car featured some of the worlds earliest hydraulic brakes. In 2000 an original Maserati 8C 2300 sold at an auction for US1.65 million and a 1932 Maserati 8C 3000 for 1.08 million. Maserati Merak $58.94 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Maserati Merak was an Italian sport car introduced in 1972, essentially a junior version of the Maserati Bora. It substituted an all new Maserati designed quadcam V6 motor (also shared with the Citroen SM) for the Boras larger V8, resulting not only in a lower cost, but room for a small backseat and better handling due to lower weight and a better front/rear weight distribution. The first Merak was designed during the Citron ownership of Maserati (19681975). It featured a 3.0 L Maserati V6 (190 hp) engine, also used in the Citron SM. The midengine Merak used the Bora bodyshell, but with the extra space offered by the smaller engine used to carve out a second row of seats, suitable for children or very small adults. Other Citron parts used for the Merak included the SMs dramatic dashboard and the hydraulic brake system. In 1977 these parts were supplanted by more conventional units. Maserati Mn2 $70.1 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Maserati Mn2 is a twoseater sports car produced by Maserati to allow a racing variant to compete in the FIA GT Championship. The car entered production in 2004 with 30 cars produced (five of which were not for sale). A further 25 were produced in 2005 making a total of 50 cars available for customers, each of which were presold for 600 000. Maserati designed and built the car on the chassis of the Enzo Ferrari but the final car is much larger with less drag coefficient. The Mn2 is longer, wider and taller and has sharper nose and smoother curves than the Enzo Ferrari, which has faster acceleration, better braking performance (shorter braking distance) and a higher top speed. The top speed of the Maserati Mn2 is 330 kilometres per hour (205 mph) whereas the top speed of the Enzo Ferrari is 350 kilometres per hour (217.5 mph). Maserati Quattroporte $78.07 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Maserati Quattroporte is a luxury fourdoor saloon made by Maserati of Italy. The name translated from Italian literally means four doors. There have been five generations of the car, each separated by a period of roughly five years. In the early 1960s, Maseratis reputation was at a high. With growing sales, Prince Karim Aga Khan ordered a special Maserati 5000 WP, chassis no. 103,060, designed by Pietro Frua. The following year, Maserati showed the firstgeneration Quattroporte of 1963, which bore a striking resemblance to the earlier drawing. Also designed by Frua, the 1963 Tipo 107 Quattroporte joined two other notable grand tourers, the Facel Vega and the Lagonda Rapide, which could comfortably do 200 km/h (124 mph) on the new motorways of Europe. However, the Quattroporte could be said to have been the first car specifically designed for this purpose. It was equipped with a 4.1 L (4136 cc/252 in) V8 engine, producing 256 hp (SAE) (191 kW) at 5,600 rpm, and either a fivespeed ZF manual transmission or a threespeed automatic. Maserati claimed a top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph). Maserati Biturbo $81.25 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Maserati Biturbo is a sports car introduced by Maserati in 1981. The Biturbo was a twodoor, four seater notchback coup (of somewhat smaller dimensions than the BMW 3 Series of the time) featuring, as the name implies, a twolitre V6 engine with two turbochargers and a luxurious interior. The car was designed by Pierangelo Andreani, an engineer from the De Tomaso team, somewhat influenced by the design of the newer Quattroporte III (Italdesign Giugiaro), as can be observed on the front fascia. Export versions came initially with a 2.5L V6, after 1989 it was enlarged to 2.8 Litres, while for Italy a twolitre high performance version was originally produced (to avoid the 38 sales tax imposed at the time on cars displacing more than 2000 cc). The aluminum 90 degree SOHC V6 engine was roughly based on the 2.0L Merak engine. Itself based on earlier V8 Formula One Maserati engines, designed by Giulio Alfieri (1924 2002). The carbureted 2.5L engine produced 185 hp (138 kW) and 208 lb ft (282 N m) of torque in North American spec and slightly more elsewhere. Maserati Kyalami $58.94 The Maserati Kyalami (named after South Africas Formula One circuit) was a new model rushed into production after Alessandro de Tomaso took helm of the company. De Tomaso, never shy of copying anything good (confer his Deauville, a smoothedout copy of Jaguars XJ 6, or his sports car prototype shown at the Turin Salon in 1974, a virtual carbon copy of Fiats X1/9), took Tom Tjaardas design of the De Tomaso Longchamp (itself inspired by the Mercedes 450SLe modified the front and rear end to create a distinctive Maserati feel for the new car. The interior was also upgraded to incorporate classic Maserati elements such the steering wheel and instrumentation. The Kyalami, a fourseater notchback coupe, was launched at the 1976 Geneva Motor Show and was initially available with Maseratis 4.2 litre V8 engine (255 hp) and, starting in 1978, with a 4.9 litreV8 delivering 290 hp, both engines coupled with a ZF 5speed manual transmission or on request a 3speed automatic. Author: Miller, Frederic P./ Vandome, Agnes F./ McBrewster, John Binding Type: Paperback Number of Pages: 76 Publication Date: 2010/07/26 Language: English Dimensions: 5.98 x 9.01 x 0.18 inches |

Maserati (Hardcover) $46.41 For much of its existence Maserati has remained in the shadow of Ferrari, its near neighbor in Modena, Italy. Little of worth has been published about the marque, but now Martin Buckley, a dedicated Maserati fan, puts that right with this detailed, colorful, passionate review of Maserati’s production cars. Starting with the early 2-litre six-cylinder road cars of the period 1946-57, he moves on to the bigger and faster models that followed. The 3500 series, 5000GT, Quattroporte, Ghibli and Indy, Bora and Merak, Khamsin, Quattroporte II and III, and Kyalami – a glorious bloodline that lasted from the 1950s to the 1980s. The Biturbo that followed saw a downturn in Maserati’s fortunes, but a modern revival is well and truly underway. |
