The Most Important Safety Tips On Woodworking Shaper And Cutter
Few woodworking machines require as much attention to safety as the shaper. Its reputation as a dangerous tool is well-earned: the shaper's highspeed cutters are difficult to guard fully and they are prone to kickback.

Before beginning any shaping operation,make sure the spindle is fastened securely to the machine and its height is locked. Turn the spindle by hand to make sure the cutter turns with the spindle. Any spindle vibration or vertical or lateral motion during a cut can spell trouble. Replace the spindle bearings or the entire assembly if you notice any problems. Periodically perform the test to ensure the spindle shaft turns true. Here are the most important safety tips on woodworking shaper and cutter :
1.Make sure the height of the spindle is locked before turning on the shaper.
2.Adjust spindle speed and rotation for the cutter you are using.
3.Do not shape warped stock, work that contains knots or fasteners, or a piece smaller than 4 inches by 6 inches.
4.Use featherboards and a push stick or a jig with hold downs to feed stock less than 12 inches long or 6 inches wide across the shaper table.
5.Always feed a workpiece against the direction of cutter rotation.
6.Never run stock between the cutter and the fence.
7.Feed work into the cutter with a smooth, constant motion; if the cutter slows down, reduce feed speed.
