Buying A Used Ford Mustang
The Ford Mustang is one of the most popular sports cars in America, with that comes a high demand for used Mustangs. Buying a new Mustang is as easy as choosing your options and driving off, however purchasing a used Mustang requires a great deal of care. Choosing the wrong car could cost you thousands of dollars in unnecessary repairs.
As with any sports car, Ford Mustangs are often driven hard. With abuse comes the need for maintenance. If proper maintenance is not followed, your new ponycar will likely become a money pit. Fear not, tips for finding potential problems are just a couple paragraphs away.
Another cause for concern is the installation of aftermarket parts. Many Mustang owners install performance parts, often times performed by owners inexperienced in the field of automotive repair. These aftermarket parts may not only be hard on other vehicle parts, but they may also void the factory warranty.
Before purchasing your Mustang, be certain to inspect the vehicle thoroughly – especially the drivetrain. If you're not qualified to properly diagnose engine, transmission, rearend, or other potential problems you should take the vehicle to a qualified mechanic. You don't want to have a wore out rear end, it's no fun especially when your friends find out.
Some of the common symptoms of an abused Mustang include rattles and squeeks in the suspension, grinding gears in a 5 speed, and a noisy engine or drivetrain. Be certain to check for tire tread, especially the rear tires. Mustang owners like to do hellacious burnouts with no respect to the tire manufacturers hard work.
Good luck with your Mustang purchase. These ponycars can be fast and reliable with proper care. Be certain you're getting the value and performance per dollar you expect and make an educated buying decision.

Ford Mustang (Second Generation) $71.7 The much larger 1973 Mustang was a far different car than the original 1964 model. Ford was deluged with mail from fans of the original car who demanded that the Mustang be returned to its original size and concept. Upon taking over the presidency of Ford Motor Company in December, 1970, Lee Iacocca ordered the development of a smaller Mustang for 1974 introduction. Initial plans called for the downsized Mustang to be based on the compact Ford Maverick, which was similar in size and power to the Falcon upon which the original Mustang had been based. Those plans were later scrapped in favor of an even smaller Mustang based on the subcompact Ford Pinto. Such a car, it was believed, could better compete with smaller, sporty import coupes such as the Toyota Celica and the Ford Capri, then built by Ford of Germany and Britain, and marketed since 1970 in the U.S. by Mercury as a captive import. Dubbed Little Jewel by Iacocca himself, the car sold well, with sales of more than 400,000 units the first year. Ford Mustang (Fourth Generation) $95.59 For 1994, the Mustang underwent its first major redesign in fifteen years. The design, code named SN95 by Ford, was based on an updated version of the Fox platform. It featured dramatic new styling by Patrick Schiavone which incorporated some stylistic elements similar to those of earlier Mustangs. A convertible model would also return, but the notchback and hatchback body styles used in earlier Mustangs were no more. Prior to the redesigned Mustangs launch, a concept called the Mustang Mach III was unveiled at the 1993 Detroit International Auto Show and hinted at what the new Mustang might look like and feature. The production Mustang resembled the Mach III concept with its sweeping curves, though the production cars styling wasnt as radical. The Mach III concept also featured a supercharged 4.6 L DOHC V8 with 450 hp (336 kW). While this specific engine didnt carry over into the production Mustang, it did hint to the future use of Fords Modular V8 in the Mustang, including the eventual use of a supercharged 4.6 L V8 similar to that of the Mach III concept.
