Car Maintenance Tips from Ford Dealerships
You can prolong the life of your car with proper car maintenance and care. Salisbury Ford has compiled a number of surprising tricks, maintenance and expert advice to help you take care of your new or used Ford:
Careful Steering: Don't hold the steering wheel all the way to the right or all the way to the left for more than a couple seconds at a time – it will damage your power-steering pump.
Avoid Filling Up on Tanker Day: If you are pulling into your favorite Maryland gas station and see a tanker filling the station's underground gas tanks – skip the fill up or go to a different station this time around. When the underground gas tanks are being filled, the movement usually stirs up sediments which can get into your gas tank and clog your fuel filters and injectors. This will often result in poor performance of your car and the need to have filters and injectors replaced.
Put Less on Key Chains – yes they make everything on keychains these days, but that doesn't mean you should add photos of your children from kindergarten to senior year to your key ring alongside your mini spray bottle of mace and flashlight. When your keys are in your Ford's ignition, that's a lot of weight bouncing around while you're driving and it can cause ignition switch failure. Has your ignition key stuck when you try to turn it? This is a warning sign that the ignition may be about to fail. Bring it into Salisbury Ford for service.
Lighten up your key chain
Does your car key share a chain with a dozen or more other keys? That's a pretty heavy load hanging off the car key when it's in the ignition.The weight, combined with bouncing while you drive, can wear out the tumblers inside the ignition and eventually lead to ignition switch failure.To add years of service to your ignition switch, purchase a lightweight key chain that allows you to separate your ignition key from the others. Drive with only the ignition key in your ignition. If your ignition key "sticks" when you try to turn on the car, it's a warning that your ignition switch is about to fail. Replace it before you get stranded.
