How Often Should I Change the Batteries in My Smoke Detectors?

As winter sets in, barbecue parties are still a common sight that can be witnessed in Atlanta, Georgia. Along with a chilly breeze, the smell of grilled steaks and hot dogs is extremely appealing. The National Fire Protect Association (NFPA) revealed that even though 90% of the homes in Atlanta boast of having at least one smoke detector, 2/3rd of all fire incidents are reported from these homes. We have all grown up hearing the adage "an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure", but we very often choose to ignore it. • A chirping sound every sixty seconds is an indicator that the batteries in your device are failing and should be replaced.

 

• Modern smoke detectors come with lithium batteries with a 10 year warranty. You will need to continuously test them to see if the batteries need to be charged or replaced. You may need to replace the entire smoke detector after 8-10 years in such cases.
