Tips for using a tanning bed for the first time

So, you have decided to venture into the world of fake-baking'. With the amount of people doing it these days you think why not? Paying visits to the tanning bed makes achieving a tan quick and easy, but also hold in mind that it does hold its risks too. As does most things in this world we do. I mean, what doesn't have some kind of link to cancer these days. So, on that note.

Yes, a tanning bed can cause skin cancer. However, if done correctly and in moderation it can be a great alternative to gaining a great sun-kissed tan. Well, I am sure the first question on the tanning bed virgin is do I wear a swimsuit or go, gulp, nude? And I say go for it! There is nothing better then no tan lines. Yes, it is kind of gross to think of other people's backsides sweating in the tanning bed before you, but all salons are required to disinfect the beds after every use. Plus, most salons will leave extra towels and spray bottle in the room if you want to give it an extra wipe down. So, be brave and jump right into that tanning bed in your good old birthday suit'.

A great tip to the first time indoor tanner is call ahead and make an appointment. Most tanning salons can get pretty busy and the wait can be long for one of their open' beds. Make it known to the attendant that you are a newbie. Getting as much instructions possible from them is key. Make sure you know how to turn the tanning bed on or if you have to do anything at all. Some tanning beds turn on automatically from the attendants desk, others you have to set a dial. So, the more instructions the better. Also, ask how to run the fans in the room and the radio. Being able to listen to music during your tan makes it go by faster and more enjoyable. I am sure the attendant will recommend a length of time you should be in the tanning bed for the first time. But, during your first week of tans you should only be in the tanning bed for five minutes maximum.

Especially if you have far skin or tend to burn only exposing yourself to tanning bed rays for a short amount of time is important. Believe me, you don't want to get burnt and sport a fire red burn for a week. To maximize the tan you get from a tanning bed you should use a tanning lotion. There are countless products that get offered at the salon. Just don't bring your own from home. Most salons prohibit this and outdoor' tanning lotions differ from indoor' tanning lotions. Purchase a sample of a tanning lotion that the attendant recommends for your skin type.

Therefore you can make sure you like the lotion before you go buying whole bottle from them. Samples will cost you a couple bucks, where a bottle can range from $30 to $100. Yes, I did say $100. Another great tip is to get a lotion with a bronzer' in it. Especially during the first week when you are still trying to build up that beautiful tan, the bronzer will add a little more glow to your skin. After tanning be sure to keep your skin moisturized. Using a tanning bed will dry your skin out, so keep that skin of your hydrated. Lastly, if your visit to the tanning bed is to get ready for some special occasion, be sure to test out how your skin reacts the fake-baking'. I am sure you don't want to be walking down the aisle or attending your prom looking like a lobster.

Give your self a couple weeks to test out the process and build a beautiful tan. So, now that you know the risks, have a few tips under your belt, go ahead get that stunning tan you have been dreaming about.
